Comparing Galaxies

In Interstellar Distances, we compared the Stellar Union of Poul Anderson's Psychotechnic History with the Terran Empire of his Technic History so we should also compare the inhabited galaxy of his Time Patrol series:

19352 A.D., the 7841st year of the Morennian Triumph;

the Chorite Heresiarchy breaking up;

a turbulent age;

commercial and genetic rivalry between giant combines;

governments pawns in a galactic game;

the search for a means of instantaneous transportation;

time travel as a by-product discovered by the Nine;

commercial possibilities, trade, mining etc;

also the possibility of preventing the births of their enemies;

the arrival of the Danellians from the further future;

suppression of the Nine and the founding of the Patrol.

Thus, although this series is set almost entirely in what we regard as the past, the Patrol originates in a period comparable to those of the Stellar Union and the Terran Empire. In that period and later, the Patrol does not need to operate in secret as it does before 19352.
