Tales Of Known Space by Larry Niven
(i) The Earth Book: twelve installments, including one novel, introduced by a fictional character. Tales: thirteen installments, introduced by the author.
(ii) Tales begins with the first Known Space installment and ends with the last whereas the Earth Book begins with the Discovery of Ythri and the exploration of Avalon and ends with the two stages of the colonization of Avalon.
(iii) Tales begins with interplanetary exploration whereas the Earth Book begins with interstellar exploration.
(iv) Tales encompasses the entire Known Space Future history whereas the Earth Book encompasses the period from the first Grand Survey to the early Terran Empire.
(v) Niven explains in his Afterthoughts that he initiated a future history series by linking the periods of Lucas Garner and Beowulf Shaeffer whereas Anderson explained elsewhere that he initiated a future history series by linking the periods of Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry.
(vi) Tales includes the story of first contact with the kzinti whereas the Earth Book includes the account of the Polesotechnic League's pivotal dealings with Merseia.

Apologies, but your point "ii" needs to be revised. TALES [OF KNOWN SPACE] has no connection with the Technic series. So I'm not entirely sure what you meant.
