References And Rereading

I referred to:

Blofeld and Goldfinger in A Cat And A Rocket when discussing Poul Anderson's Orion Shall Rise;

From Russia, With Love in As Their Enemies See Them when also discussing Anderson's A Circus Of Hells and The People Of The Wind;

SPECTRE in Cells when discussing Anderson's We Claim These Stars.

After rereading parts of these works in order to refer to them, I then reread Goldfinger and From Russia, With Love in their entireties and have now begun to reread Thunderball.

Poul Anderson is worth reading whatever you think of his pulp origins and Ian Fleming is worth reading whatever you might think of the James Bond films: two authors who might easily be written off for the wrong reasons.

Kaor, Paul!

Thinking about Chapter 5 of FROM RUSSIA, WITH LOVE inspired me to regret that we never see a meeting of the Roidhn's Grand Council in which Dominic Flandry caused much frustrated discussion! My view is that by the time of WE CLAIM THESE STARS Flandry had thwarted so many Merseian plots against the Empire that he became an object of discussion by the Protector and the Grand Council. I would have liked to have read about such a meeting!

Ad astra! Sean
