Places Not Visited In The Patrician System

Not Visited
moons
asteroids
the Seas of Yin and Yang on Imhotep
Ghundrung, the Donarrian community on Daedalus

Members of several races colonized Daedalus. Their communities have local autonomy and "baronies" are mentioned on p. 258. Clearly, Daedalus was conceived as a planet where different intelligent species of the Technic History could be encountered, like Mosaic in the DC Universe.

A long time ago, I imagined a single "Planet of Adventure" where, after arriving in a spaceport in a futuristic city, it would be possible to travel by plane, train or other conveyance to areas reproducing the Wild West, World War II, knights in armor, South Seas pirates, a modern city with organized crime and a Police Department etc.

Imhotep has human beings, Tigeries and Seafolk. Daedalus has human beings, Cynthians, Donarrians and by implication others. Although it appears just once in this single novel, the Patrician System could have become a spin-off series.

Kaor, Paul!

Even the most energetic and peripatetic of traveler can only see so many places! I've been to Rome more than once and it was impossible to visit or see all the places in that SINGLE city I would like to have seen!

And the way Daedalus was described in THE GAME OF EMPIRE, with settlements by so many different species makes me thing that was partly because of the role playing game originally intended for a shorter version of the story.

And mention of that veterans colony reminded me of how, during the Roman Empire, it was customary to settle soldiers discharged from the legions in veterans colonies.

Another thing I remember about Daedalus is how, because of a trick of geography, you can't see a horizon. Which I admit finding hard to grasp!

Ad astra! Sean
