(A street in Lancaster.)
An Old Phoenix must be close to rebirth?
"I have had tens of thousands of cash, and a wife, a son, and many concubines.
"Only the phoenix arises and does not descend: thus it comes about that now, in the gray of my years,
"I am sent far from the court, and family, and all I know, into exile."
-Neil Gaiman, "Exiles" IN Gaiman, The Sandman: The Wake (New York, 1997), pp. 120-144 AT p. 122.
This comparison of three phoenixes is fanciful but is also the last post for tonight.
"Exiles" concludes:
"Only the phoenix arises and does not descend.
"And everything changes.
"And nothing is truly lost." (p. 144)
Good night.
