Incidentally, the turf streets are also present in Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Barsoom" stories -- the Martians use fliers of sizes from one-man vehicles smaller than a car to titanic big-ship size, and ground vehicles that touch the ground very lightly, and use a tough moss-like vegetation for road surfaces and many others where we'd use pavement.
