See Crisis.
When Veleda resists the goddess' new message of peace:
"Floris glanced aloft." (p. 615)
The goddess too looks up for help? Veleda does not notice because she has sunk to the floor and buried her face, wracked by emotion. The text continues:
"Roof beams and rafters were lost in blackness." (ibid.)
No help there?
"Light had left the window and cold crept inward." (ibid.)
Knowledge, understanding and wisdom recede? The cold of the Northern winter that threatens all life encroaches? (Am I reading too much into this?)
Floris subvocalizes and inwardly hears Everard's reply. He hovers aloft, thus explaining her upward glance.
As Everard recounts events elsewhere, Floris wonders whether they signify:
"...the world lines tightening as they seek to regain their proper configuration?" (ibid.)
Is that possible? We really do not understand events in the Time Patrol timeline.

Kaor, Paul!
I think it's simpler to think Janne looked at the ceiling while trying to figure out what next to say.
Ad astra! Sean
