Conan The Rebel, XI.
People often say the opposite of what they mean. An old revolutionary said, sarcastically, "I'm going to join the (British) Labour Party - because it's full of old people like me!" He meant, of course, that he was not going to join the Labour Party and also that an active party needs young members.
People say, "Hell hath no fury..." They mean, of course, not "Hell hath no fury," but: "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Nehekba has easily manipulated Falco and Jehanan and takes for granted her ability to do the same with Conan but he easily turns the tables, earning her enduring enmity. She will, she claims, bring "'...Conan the brute to destruction...'" (p. 116) Meanwhile, Conan doubts his own ability to harm a woman. I guess that either Falco or Jehanan will dispose on Nehekba but I cannot remember what happens. I reread with interest. So many characters interact.

Beware of what you wish for! The younger activists dominating the Democrats are insane Politically Correct woke antisemite leftists who are driving more moderate Democrats from the party.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
There are no insane Politically Correct woke antisemite leftists. Surely this is hate speech? (Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism.)
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
No, it is not. That is exactly what I have been seeing from so many leftists since 10/7, an explosion of hatred for Jews/Israel. Anti-Zionism is often code for Jew hating. I have nothing but contempt for US leftists.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
Yes, it is.
Opposition to Israeli policies and actions, yes. Hatred of Jews, no. Large, self-proclaimed Jewish contingents with rabbis, banners and placards attend the large, regular Palestine Solidarity Campaign marches through London. I have seen them and shaken hands with one. All the marchers would eject and exclude anyone who expressed antisemitism.
US leftists cannot be that different. It is an international movement. Contempt, surely, is hate.
Leftists attend Holocaust Memorial events every year.
I attended a public meeting in Lancaster where a Jewish campaigner wanted unity with his Muslim brothers and sisters. A Muslim speaker cited that Islam had been anti-racist since the time of the Prophet. There is a lot of good stuff happening out here which you are missing.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
It's factually incorrect to deny leftists cannot be antisemites. I reject the myth of the "noble leftist."
It's not just "opposition" to Israel, it's also about the persecution and hatred of Jews. Nor do I care if some Jews deludedly support the enemies of Israel--that means nothing to me because they are wrong too.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
We have been through this before. If you fall back on the claim that leftists CAN be antisemites, there is no reason for me to deny this. If you continue to claim that leftists in general are antisemites, then I do deny this.
What is not just "opposition" to Israel? Opposition to Israel is just opposition to Israel! It is not persecution or hatred of Jews and we should not be accused of that.
You should care what many, not just "some," Jews think about this! They are neither deluded nor wrong but are opposing what is being done to Palestinians.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
Not can be, but some leftists are antisemites. I've never said all leftists are Jew haters, but many are.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
The campaign for Palestinian rights is not antisemitic.
Please document some antisemitic leftists.
Paul.
