The Greatest Sacrifice?

(While trying to sort out another problem, I accidentally deleted a post dated yesterday entitled "The Greatest Sacrifice?" I will now do my best to reproduce its contents from memory.)

(I prefer a cross without a body on it.)

"...the tribe...had to appease heaven with the greatest sacrifice of all: human life taken according to law."
-Vault Of The Ages, Chapter 14, p. 137.

A barbaric belief. Could it return in the future? It still exists now. If civilization destroyed itself but humanity survived, then the most primitive, and literal, form of this belief could return. In fact, in those circumstances, appeasement by blood sacrifice might well run rampant.

The Buddha said somewhere that the best sacrifice is an offering not of flesh to the gods but of fruit to the poor. This demonstrates the moral strides that can be made within spiritual philosophical traditions. What the Buddha said addresses us now whereas only a Jewish minority wants the building of a Third Temple with resumed animal sacrifice.

(I have now restored the original version of this post here.)

Kaor, Paul!

And I prefer the Cross with the Corpus, a reminder of the infinitely sufficiently sacrifice of Christ.

Ad astra! Sean

Sean,

A deity requiring a blood sacrifice is a barbaric idea.

Paul.
