Targovi creeps in and out of the Zacharian defense building, gathering a treasure-trove of military intelligence - data discs and a severed Merseian head - without any hindrance. The trio are able to escape from Zacharia because Axor, carrying Diana, is able to gallop and Targovi, unencumbered, is able to bound across a spaceport to steal a ship. Axor, like the earlier Wodenite, Adzel, can take some hits from bullets and can trample the opposition. We get the impression that the author needs to finish the novel quickly! But it is a smooth operation that we cannot find any fault with. Poul Anderson liked action scenes and wrote them well. The data from the discs considerably enhances our knowledge of the previous generation of Technic History. We regret that, with this novel, our knowledge of the Flandry period comes to an end and the overall History visibly approaches its end.
