Van Rijn, Falkayn and Adzel are introduced separately in Volume I which also twice mentions Cynthia, home planet of Chee Lan, the third trader team member. This part of the Technic History is rich both in continuing characters and also in equally substantial one-offs. Adzel, who will join the trader team, is introduced in a story narrated by James Ching, who is never to be seen again except that Hloch's introduction to the story summarizes some later biographical information.
"How To Be Ethnic In One Easy Lesson," about Ching and his alien friend, Adzel, is a success story for Ching but the series acknowledges that not everyone succeeds. Conflicts and resentments come to the boil in Mirkheim which is the beginning of the end of the Polesotechnic League and our last sight of van Rijn and his trader team.
Falkayn has made provision for the approaching Troubles and we see the fruits of his labours in The People Of The Wind. His colony planet, Avalon, continues to play a role later in the Technic History. As in real history, consequences have consequences.
