There Will Be Time.
The man who returns the lost child, Johnny Havig, to his parents wears a hat that shadows his face and instantly departs - or even just disappears - as soon as Tom Havig kneels to embrace his son. This sounds like the Phantom Stranger. (Scroll down.) In previous posts, I have speculated about such figures passing between universes. However, There Will Be Time is set within a single immutable timeline with no access to any alternative timelines, parallel universes, extra dimensions etc so there is only one person that the stranger can be and this becomes clearer when John begins to describe fantastic trips with his Uncle Jack.
Guidance by the older self is an early stage in the life of a time traveler both in There Will Be Time and in The Time Traveler's Wife.

Kaor, Paul!
And we might see something like that kind of guiding by an older self if human cloning becomes real and practical. That is, a man might get himself cloned and then raise the resulting child.
Ad astra! Sean
