Cosmic Crises II

Continued from here.

(ii), continued. The universe is threatened in The Year Of The Ransom (see here) and, more generally, the Patrol exists to prevent cosmic chaos (see here).

In Operation Chaos, Steve Matuchek broadcasts telepathically to other universes because there might be a multiversal threat.

(iii) This line of thought was started by reading a comic strip but it was Logicomix, not a superhero title. The philosophers' quest is to verify reality but, to do this, they must struggle not against supervillains or time criminals but with intractable and intangible concepts.

Kaor, Paul!

Yes, H.G. Wells WAR OF TWO WORLDS was an SF classic in which we see for the first time the theme of alien invasion, in this case, from Mars. And the Martians of Wells story were pretty nasty people. But it's my view that Anderson's THE WAR OF TWO WORLDS shows us both a more plausible invasion of Earth by Martians AND that the invaders were far nicer people than Wells invaders. We see both a reasonable explanation of how Earth and Mars could go to war AND how they were both being manipulated by unknown aliens.
