Ancestors And Celebrities

When discussing the Sherrinfords' collateral descent here, I forgot to mention that my father's family, living in Cumberland (now Cumbria) in the North West of England, claimed to be related to the famous Cumbrian Christians. Time travel would present the opportunity of meeting our ancestors and also famous figures who might sometimes be the same people.

Everard:

"...wondered if Wulfnoth and Eadgar were among [Mary Nelson's] ancestors. Yes...undoubtedly they were, after all these centuries. Maybe Schtein was too."
-Poul Anderson, "Time Patrol" IN Anderson, Time Patrol (New York, 2006), pp. 1-53 AT p. 47.

"The private agent smiled sourly..." (op. cit., p. 25)

"Croesus of Lydia nodded graciously."
-Poul Anderson, "Brave To Be A King" IN Time Patrol, pp. 55-112 AT p. 70.

"Hiram did not quite resemble his average subject."
-Poul Anderson, "Ivory, And Apes, And Peacocks" IN Time Patrol, pp. 229-331 AT p. 284.

"'...Wanda, the man you had that runaround with is your ancestor.'"
-Poul Anderson, "The Year Of The Ransom" IN Time Patrol, pp. 641-735 AT p. 734.

"[Everard's] hours with Will Rogers were among the pleasantest of his life."
-Poul Anderson, The Shield Of Time (New York, 1991), Part Two, p. 81.

"...a couple of her literary idols were at the same sidewalk cafe, two tables over..." (op. cit., Part Four, p. 180)

Kaor, Paul!

Except for the last you listed, I remember all of these allusions. Probably because I did not really care for some writers such as Hemingway or Fitzgerald or Joyce.

And I was esp. amused to find out Don Luis Castelar was ancestor of Wanda Tamberly!

I have sometimes wondered who were my remoter ancestors and what kind of persons they were. And were any of them known to history?
