Time

Manse Everard reflects:

"...that structure [of the plenum] isn't just changeable in time as well as space. It seems to be subtler and trickier than they see fit to teach us about at the Academy." (The Shield Of Time, p. 261)

They cannot teach everything at any Academy. The first part of training is academic; the second is experiential.

"Coincidences can be more than accidents." (ibid.)

How might this be known? What would a coincidence be if it were not an accident?

"Maybe Jung glimpsed a little of the truth, in his notions about synchrony -" (ibid.)

Maybe, but this seems to be moving us away from the time travel premise. In fact, Anderson is working towards a kind of change that is not caused by time travelers but that can only be detected by time travelers.

"- I dunno. The universe isn't for the likes of me to understand. I only work here." (ibid.)

Those two concluding sentences are eminently quotable. There are more relevant passages to quote and discuss but right now I am running out of time.
