69-70 AD

In 69-70 AD:

Claudius Civilis led the Northern revolt;

Kwang Wu-Ti consolidated the later Han dynasty;

the Satavahanas overran India;

Vologaeses I resisted rebels and invaders in Persia;

Roman legions had learned that they could make Emperors;

the Jewish War detained Vespasian after his defeat of Vitellius;

the Third Temple was destroyed;

the Time Patrol ignored apparently unimportant events in Germany...

Poul Anderson summarizes simultaneous historical events, summarized further here. I admit to ignorance about Kwang Wu-Ti, the Satavahanas and Vologaeses, although we now have the historically unprecedented ability to google these phrases if we want to. But it is not necessary to do this in order to appreciate Anderson's text, which vividly conveys a period of turmoil with major consequences for us:

"The rising of the Jews, the bloody suppression of it, the destruction of the Third Temple - with everything that that was to mean for the future, Judaism, Christianity, the Empire, Europe, the world."
-Poul Anderson, Time Patrol (New York, 2006), p. 492.
