"Time Patrol"

Earlier and again recently on this blog, I have discussed several aspects of the opening story of Poul Anderson's Time Patrol series. Looking back on these discussions, I am amazed at how much is to be found in this one story.

Characters
Manson Everard
Charles Whitcomb
Mainwethering
Stane
the detective

Settings
the Time Patrol Academy
the Oligocene
New York
Victorian London
post-Roman Britain
London, 1944

Other Issues
the Danellians
the Nine
the Solar System in 2987

1944, only ten years before his recruitment, is as close as Everard ever comes to operating in his present. The first character that we meet is Mr Gordon. The opening sentence of the entire series is spoken by him but he disappears after that to be mentioned only one more time in the second story. His status as an agent in the local office does not fit in with Everard's wanderings through space and time as an Unattached agent of the Patrol.

I have exhausted "Time Patrol" for the time being but there is no knowing when some other issue might arise from this first story.
