Matucheks And Morpheus

(i) Steven Matuchek rescues his daughter, Valeria, from Hell in Poul Anderson's Operation Chaos, the Swamp Thing rescues Abigail Cable from Hell in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and Morpheus retrieves his helmet from Hell in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.

(ii) William Shakespeare writes A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest for Morpheus in The Sandman and is the Great Historian in Anderson's A Midsummer Tempest.

(iii) Valeria meets Prince Rupert from the Shakespearean history in the Old Phoenix Inn in A Midsummer Tempest. Travelers from many histories shelter, in the Inn of the Worlds' End, from a reality storm caused by Morpheus' death in The Sandman.

Travelers from SM Stirling's alternative histories might find their way to either Inn but would then be surprised to learn that their "realistic" timelines coexist with many universes where supernatural beings exist and magic works.

Kaor, Paul!

I would have loved to see an Old Phoenix story written by Poul Anderson showing us Manuel Argos and Dominic Flandry!

I wonder if S.M. Stirling could obtain permission from Anderson's estate for writing an Old Phoenix story of his own? I could imagine characters as diverse as Eric von Shrakenberg and Captain Athelstan King meeting there!

Sean,
Is there to be a MULTIVERSE II?

A good question, but I don't know! In fact, I think I will ask Greg Bear, PA's son-in-law, if he knows of any plans for a MULTIVERSE II. AND if Poul Anderson left behind any publishable fragments.
