Senlac, Jack Havig's home town, is realized in detail whereas his time travel base, although I have listed it here, is really only described telegrammically despite its being the main equivalent of the Academy in a different timeline. There Will Be Time is a thin and terse novel whereas the same narrative could have been presented and elaborated in a much longer volume.

Even if THERE WILL BE TIME was not as detailed in some parts as it could have been, I never thought it was "thin"!
Plus, Anderson's Foreword to TWBT had me worried for years and years.

My Doubleday copy TWBT has 181 pages, which was average for Anderson's books in the 1960s/early 70s when Anderson had to hew to the rigid page limits set by many publishers.

In the Time Patrol series, NYC sorta continues in the 1970's-80's style, which is not so. Crime has fallen drastically, for example -- it's now lower than it was in the early 1960's.

I am not so optimistic, because the successors of Mayor Bloomberg have shown themselves to be more and more incompetent. That bungler Mamdani is now trying to impose a total rent control freeze on all rental properties. We both know what a catastrophic failure that is going to be!

Sean: Yeah. As the saying goes, capitalism has many problems. Socialism has only one: It doesn't work. Still, "The fool's bandaged finger/Goes wobbling back to the fire", as the poet put it.
Disagree about socialism but Sean and I have been through this ad nauseam. Capitalism's problems are destroying the Earth now. There are indeed fools around!

Mr. Stirling: Absolutely! Far too many of us are totally unwilling to learn from hard experience and give up tom fool delusions like socialism.
Paul. Wrong, free enterprise, when given a chance has solved far more problems than nonsense like socialism ever has. I put far more faith in humans solving problems when not harassed and coerced by socialists.
