later, van Rijn founds a trader team which includes David Falkayn and Adzel, a large quadrupedal Wodenite;
later again, Falkayn leads the joint human-Ythrian colonization of the planet, Avalon;
centuries later on Avalon, Tabitha Falkayn has an affair with Philippe Rochefort, a Jerusalem Catholic.
Four prequels:
the Jerusalem Catholic Church existed as early as the mid-twenty-first century;
human explorers discovered Ythri;
Ythrians, employing some human beings, explored the planet later named Avalon;
Adzel studied planetology on Earth.
The Technic History grows forwards and backwards.

One of the strengths of the Technic history is that it doesn't attempt to describe the immediate future. Heinlein did that, and it became an 'alternate history' rather quickly.
Kaor, Paul!
Temporally speaking, it's getting "nerve wrackingly" close to when we both suspect "something" happened to force the Papacy to abandon its ancient home in Rome--and possibly relocate to a site near Jerusalem. Given this age of Chaos, I can't help but wonder if Rome was destroyed by terrorists. I hope that does not happen!

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!
I agree but see my above comment. I can imagine fanatics of one stripe or another trying to destroy Rome.
