Page And Screen

Of the three sf series mentioned in the previous post, two, kzinti and Dune, have, in different ways, made the transition from page to screen whereas Poul Anderson's Technic History has not yet. My point is not just that it should but also that people who know sf only through films and TV need to become aware of prose sf. I was in an "sf bookshop" that was entirely media-related. You could learn about Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who but would have to look elsewhere for a copy of The Time Machine or Time Patrol. There are two completely different science fictions out there. Film Poul Anderson, yes, but read him anyway.

Late at night. Short post. The Man-Kzin Wars still stretches ahead of us. There is much more in it than might have been thought.

Kaor, Paul!

I absolutely agree! Too many know of "science fiction" only from the dreck we so often get from TV and filmed "SF" shows. I wish somebody in the movie industry would take a chance and film versions of the Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry stories. Preferably honest and accurate adaptations!

And I have seen the ghastly DUNE movie! I do not recommend it. We should stick to DUNE, the book.

And I'm still disgusted by how Peter Jackson botched THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS!

Ad astra! Sean
