Allied Planets

"The Sharing of Flesh."

Whereas the USS Enterprise represents the United Federation of Planets led by Earth, New Dawn represents the Allied Planets led by Atheia:

"...which was supposed to have retained or regained almost as many amenities as Old Earth knew in its glory..." (p. 665)

The last four installments in Poul Anderson's Technic History each present an entirely different interstellar set-up.

The personnel of the Allied Planets expedition to Lokon:

"'...are from several different planets...'" (p. 673)

- including Atheia, Kraken and Nuevamerica, and they know of Lochlann, Gwydiona, Ifri and Freehold. This displays at least an overlap between the known space of the Terran Empire period and the spatial volume explored and re-civilized by the Allied Planets:

Diana Crowfeather's mother was from Atheia;
Olaf Magnusson was from Kraken and Roan Tom settled there;
Lochlann was in the Supermetals Company in the later League period;
Ifri was the location of Navy headquarters of Sector Alpha Crucis in the Terran Empire;
Freehold was an "Outpost of Empire";
Nuevamerica we have first read about in the post-Imperial period.

I wrote here that Kraken leads in the Allied Planets but this was based on the "Militech" of the Lokon expedition being a Krakener. In fact, Atheia inducted Kraken into the alliance.

Since we are keeping track of beverages, the Lokonese drink herb tea. (p. 676)

Kaor, Paul!

And isn't there also mention of Llynathawr in "The Sharing of Flesh"? That planet was the seat of the Governor of Sector Alpha Crucis in Imperial times.

Ad astra! Sean

Sean,
Not sure. Haven't got to it yet. Don't think so, though.

I could have sworn I saw mention of Llynathawr somewhere in one of those four post-Imperial stories.
