Poul Anderson, "The Sharing of Flesh" IN Anderson, Flandry's Legacy (Riverdale, NY, 2012), pp. 661-708.
Roan Tom, Raven and Daven Laura are potential series characters in the post-Imperial period of Poul Anderson's Technic History. I do not think that the one other post-Imperial installment, "The Sharing of Flesh," contributes any such character but let us reread it to find out.
The spaceship is called New Dawn, appropriate for the end of the Long Night. It remains in orbit around the planet Lokon while a boat takes people, equipment, prefab shacks, flitters and gravsleds down to the single habitable island: a Star Trek scenario, although with a boat instead of a transporter.
The expedition's "Militech" is from Kraken, the first indication within the text that this narrative is part of the Technic History.

Kaor, Paul!
I think it makes sense for space ships to not always land on planets, but to use shuttle boats for ferrying passengers and cargo. E.g., some ships might be too large to safely land on planets.
And "militech" reminds me of the "meditech" or "meditechnician" I've seen elsewhere in the Technic series.
Ad astra! Sean
