Mother Of Kings

Yesterday, Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, my 64th birthday, I received as a present a second hand copy of Mother Of Kings by Poul Anderson. Having never seen this novel before, I will shortly comment on a first reading as against a rereading.

As an initial observation, the book has:

nearly 600 pages of text;
6 Books;
7 pages of maps;
a 4 page Index to Maps;
a 5 page Afterword;
7 pages of Dramatis Personae;
a 2+ page Geographical Glossary;
a title character already referred to in an Anderson historical fantasy.

Thus, this work resembles a culmination of his Viking era historical fantasies. It remains to be seen whether the text measures up to expectations.
