"Star Ship" is a coming of age story both for a man and for a planet. Janazik, sighing wistfully, realizes that, when Anse settles down with Ellen, this will be:
"...the end of the old unregenerate days." (p. 290)
Khazaki males and females feel comradeship but not the kind of love that Terrestrial do.
Anse realizes that he will have to give up his old comradeship with Janazik.
When Khazak is incorporated into Galactic civilization, it will lose not its innocence but its violence!
Finally, Janazik pretends that it was he, not Anse, that had killed Ellen's brother, Carse. This means that Anse and Janazik will not only lose their old comradeship but also never see each other again.
Endings and beginnings.
"Star Ship" belongs not in the early interstellar period with "Gypsy" but in the later period with The Peregrine.

Kaor, Paul!
I am skeptical, that potentiality for predatory violence will remain among both humans and Khazaki. And will again be seen if/when that galactic civilization falls.
Ad astra! Sean
