Wanda Tamberly After Judgment

The Shield Of Time, PART FOUR, 1990 A. D.

With backing from Manse Everard and maybe a word from the Danellians, Wanda Tamberly gets a reprimand, not exile. After her ordeal, Everard can see that she is:

"'Plumb wore out.'" (p. 255)

Indeed:

"She hugged herself, as if a wind off a glacier had touched her. 'And, and haunted.'" (ibid.)

The wind gets in everywhere. "Haunted" is exactly how Tamberly left several people back in Beringia.

Thus ends PART FOUR but with a hint of what is to come in PART SIX:

"'I've a hunch that the decision to pardon you came down from [the Danellians]. In which case you're more important, somewhere up the line, than either of us today knows." (p. 254)

Well, the Danellians would approve of anyone who contributed to the history that leads to them...

(Regular blog readers might remember that I occasionally have a day trip to London. One such tomorrow will obviously interfere with posts.)

Kaor, Paul!

Meaning Wanda was at serious risk of being sentenced to the exile planet? I've thought it a pity none of the stories shows us that planet!

Alternately, she could have been dismissed from the Patrol and sent back to live out her life in the ordinary way in 1987.

Ad astra! Sean
