Everard and Varagan discuss three hypothetical alternative histories.
First, Varagan claims that, with his help, Bolivar could have founded an enlightened, progressive empire, preventing much suffering and death.
Secondly, Everard replies that Bolivar lacked the necessary communications and support. He would have overreached himself, causing chaos enabling Varagan to seize power.
Thirdly, Everard points out that San Martin had suggested a monarchy that might have united much of South America.
Everard regards only the third alternative as possibly both viable and desirable.

And virtually all the nations which emerged from the disintegrating Spanish Empire did go thru frequent bouts of chaos, coups, dictatorships, wars and civil wars, etc., anyway. Altho not perhaps to the extent suggested in the second scenario.
I'm so FED UP with well meaning idiots who always seem to make matters worse, not better!

I am fed up with the present world order which is destroying the environment very quickly. I know what your solution is but NO ONE's solution is being implemented. Instead, armed nation-states prepare for and practice endless warfare.

At leas some people do advocate for nuclear power. And Elon Musk hopes to found a colony on Mars. Those are positive steps.
We have wars because human beings are bellicose and quarrelsome. And I don't see those qualities ever going away. NOR am I sure it would be good if those aspects of human nature somehow disappeared. It's good to have some ambition and conpetiveness.
