A Hilltop Homestead

The narrow outbacker roads become rivers in heavy rain. These guys live outdoors a lot but have to take shelter then. A low, log and stone hilltop homestead has an overgrown sod roof, invisible from above. No woodland buildings are locked. Inside, the lamps are micro-cultures in glass globes and the heat source is fuel oil. There is a well-stocked larder.

A Meal
white tablecloth
candlelight
crystal goblets
red wine
horn utensils
obsidian knives
stylized, Arulian-influenced paintings on the walls
no music
the sound of the storm

We are not told what they eat so this post does not join the Food Thread.

Kaor, Paul!

As S.M. Stirling pointed out in another combox, I think OUR technology could have detected this house, esp. from sensing HEAT, from either power sources or human bodies.

I fear the surveillance technology Anderson had the Imperials using in "Outpost Of Empire" was dated.
