Poul Anderson's gyrogravitics:
moves spaceships between planets;
keeps air and heat on asteroids;
moves a terraformed asteroid to Alpha Centauri slower than light.
James Blish's graviton polarity generators:
keep air on cities in space;
move spaceships and cities between stars faster than light;
move a planet between galaxies faster than light.
Gyrogravitics are a poor man's graviton polarity generators.
So far, we have compared Anderson's Tales Of The Flying Mountains to other future histories by:
Wells
Heinlein
Asimov
Blish
Niven
Pournelle
Anderson
Aldiss
Tales describes the Asteroid Revolution whereas Wells' The Shape Of Things To Come describes a Terrestrial Revolution.

Kaor, Paul!
I know you are a devoted fan of James Blish, but I consider Anderson's gyrogravitics more plausible than Blish's graviton polarity generators.
