Beyond Antares and on the far edge of Polesotechnic League activities, the star Osman has one inhabited sub-Jovian planet, Suleiman, with life based on hydrogen, ammonia and methane, where the primitive but friendly natives harvest bluejack, a spice and tonic plant, in exchange for trade goods from Nicholas van Rijn's Solar Spice & Liquors company which maintains a scientific base, run by the Altaian Emil Dalmady, from where the bluejack, to be sold to other hydrogen breathers, is transported by a regularly calling Cynthian spaceship. The best market for bluejack is the planet Babur orbiting Mogul about thirty light-years further away. One Baburite country has acquired enough interstellar exchange to invest in robotics and to commission some hyperdrive ships with crew training.

I love how plausibly Anderson describes how interstellar trade might be carried out, assuming FTL is possible.

The Baburites are more psychologically alien than the natives of that planet, too.
