Pursuit

"Hiding Place."

A spaceship detected by its hyperwake, then pursued through hyperspace, reverts to sublight velocity, thus becoming undetectably small in the vastness of three-dimensional space. However, the Hebe G.B.'s computers know both the superlight vector and the precise time of hyperdrive cutoff and therefore also know which volume of space to search. The Hebe G.B. hyperjumps in a search pattern, stopping periodically to sample neutrinos. Statistical analysis differentiates one weak nearby source from the general haze emitted by the stars. Traveling to that source, the yacht establishes visual contact with the alien.

Bingo and good night!

Kaor, Paul!

Oops! I wrote this in the wrong combox instead of here: "I can imagine something like this actually being done if a real FTL drive is ever invented."

Ad astra! Sean
