Muddlin' Through detects Dewfall, makes contact and lays alongside. Falkayn, Adzel and Chee Lan board. Van Rijn provides food, drink and music. Before relaxing, Falkayn asks what has happened to those in Dewfall. Hirharouk describes pursuit and escape.
Falkayn asks what van Rijn will do about Supermetals. In payment for the attack, van Rijn wants ten percent. Falkayn replies that, for van Rijn, money has become a counter in a game whereas Supermetals are not playing a game. Hiraharouk explains that they want to fly free and that the shadow of God is over the League. Coya asks van Rijn to remain silent.
Van Rijn says that Falkayn has broken fealty. Coya thinks that he suspected but would not admit it until she let out the truth. Did she? What did van Rijn think that his trade pioneer crew were doing there if he was still not admitting to himself their involvement in Supermetals? And how did what she said make a difference?
Falkayn suggests that they let the past stay dead. Watching Falkayn and Coya, and himself watched by Adzel, Chee and Hiraharouk, van Rijn agrees and pours a drink. With that gesture, a historical turning point has passed.
