Aging Agents?

I had forgotten that the term, "antithanatic," used in Poul Anderson's World Without Stars, is also applied to the anti-aging treatment received by his Time Patrol agents. Surprised by Janne Floris' reference to becoming "'...old and feeble...,'" we check and find that we have posted about this remark three times previously:

Janne And Wanda

Age And Death

Antithanatics

How long Time Patrol agents live and whether they do eventually age remain unanswered questions. One final novel to wind up the series would have been a good idea.

I expect that the Time Patrol's treatment can reverse aging, or that they can counterfeit the effects of age when necessary for an agent.

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

Now that's interesting, counterfeiting the effects/appearance of age, but I can see how it could be useful.

You reminded me of how the five Istari ("Wizards") were sent to Middle-earth in Third Age 1000. They had the appearance of old men, even tho they did not get noticeably feebler.

And Tolkien fans like to ponder such things as what happened to the Blue Wizards whose task took them far to the east of Middle-earth, beyond the Sea of Rhun.

Ad astra! Sean
