The Sunken City Of Averorn

The Merman's Children.

Tauno has descended into total darkness where he can smell the kraken and sense the movement of its gills. Uncovering his lanthorn and looking down, he sees:

a large, ruined, stone city;
acres of desolation;
toppled shapeless masses in the silt;
a tower;
a partly fallen temple;
colonnades around an altar and an image of a god;
a wrecked castle;
glowing fish;
buried piers and city walls;
the harbor crowded with galleons;
skeletons in a roofless house;
twinkling gold and gems in burst-open vaults and warehouses;
an eight-sided plaza with the mosaic image of the kraken;
the kraken -

- eight gleaming, suckered arms reach into the corners of the plaza;
two longer arms, twice as long as the merfolks' ship, curl around a pillar bearing the triskeled disc of the god conquered by the kraken;
finned head;
hook beak;
a lidless eye;
stirring because wakened by Tauno.

Kaor, Paul!

That image you chose looked uncannily like the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the Vatican City. Are we to imagine Rome one day subsiding beneath the sea? An ominous thought!
