More On Lorenzo

Lorenzo's face:

"...appeared older than his twenty-four years, yet also ageless." (The Shield Of Time, p. 330)

Agelessness suggests transcendence of time. Lorenzo's world line does in fact transcend his original timeline.

"He was tall for the era..." (ibid.)

We are used to being told that Everard, big in his own era, is even bigger in earlier eras but here he meets his match, a man too big for one version of the Middle Ages.

"His robe was not the usual robe of a gentleman indoors, but blouse, tunic, hose, as if he wanted always to be ready for action." (ibid.)

Lorenzo's mere existence is always active even when seemingly stationary.

Everard needs to know how Lorenzo changed history but, several times, the former's question as to what had happened on the battlefield is brushed aside as Lorenzo rushes on with his story. This is the divergent timeline protecting itself from a Patrol counter-intervention. When Everard is able to press his question, Lorenzo, puzzled, asks why. Everard, a pilgrim, is able to say that he has heard tales and is interested in anything supernatural. He is really interested in anything extra-temporal but the trail looks cold. No Neldorians riding to battle with futuristic weapons. Just a quantum fluctuation.
