Add to historical and scientific knowledge in the present.

Eventually, retire in some compatible period.

If Everything Went Pear-Shaped

If you returned to an altered "present":

decide whether to remain in that "present," which might be an improvement;

otherwise, return to the past, then back to the "present," which might have been fixed by the Time Patrol;

if it was not fixed, then return to the past, contact a Patrol base and offer to help;

if it was impossible to restore the preferred timeline, then discuss with other stranded time travellers how to adjust to living in the altered timeline.
