Andrea and I watched a superhero film. Special effects are perfect but script-writing lags far behind. Graphic novels can be of literary quality. Films should be also. Authentic adaptations of Anderson's Technic History would combine spectacular visuals with substantial content: Ythrians in flight; Starkadian Seafolk in their underwater cities; the shining spatial environment of the "Cloud Universe" star cluster etc.
Thank you for the many pageviews recorded today despite no posts until this one.
Kaor, Paul!
ReplyDeleteThere are so few "science fiction movies" which deserves to be called that! And I also wish some accurate filmed versions of the Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry stories would be made.
How might Admiralty Center be shown? Anderson's descriptions of the Center in THE REBEL WORLDS and HUNTERS OF THE SKY CAVE are among my favorites. Esp. his somberly anxious reflections about it in the latter work.
Years ago David Birr suggested Admiralty Center was built on what's now Colorado Springs.
And A STONE IN HEAVEN shows how Miriam Abrams was overwhelmed by the "nightmare beauty" of Archopolis. I can well imagine some off planet visitors being awestruck by the capital of the Empire when it was still at its height.
Ad astra! Sean
