Reading And Life

For each of us, where we read a book can be a remembered part of the reading experience. See Literary Geography. Life goes on all around an author as he writes and us as we read. We, editorially speaking, sometimes try to show that blogging is not an abstract intellectual exercise but one of a number of contemporaneous life activities. Blog readers know that some activities encroach on blogging time. This morning, gym. This evening, Zen. Tomorrow, a visit to Andrea above the Old Pier Bookshop. On Saturday, some people from Lancaster attended a political meeting in the nearby city of Preston but I was unable to accompany them because all the tickets had been sold! However, I was quite content to spend some of that time frequenting a restaurant with an excellent selection of cakes. Life holds many pleasures of which reading is one. I am grateful not to any single person but to several agencies including our ancestors who have bequeathed all of this to us, including even the English language. Poul Anderson's books and characters live.

  1. Kaor, Paul!

The impression I've gotten is that most used book stores are now mail order businesses because their "margin of profit" is so narrow that's the only way they can operate. I'm glad Andrea's brother can still offer walk in book selling services.

    Ad astra! Sean
