Poul Anderson's title, The Fleet Of Stars, is taken from "The Dying Patriot" by James Elroy Flecker. Anderson quotes the concluding stanza. The full poem is here.
The stanzas begin:
"Day breaks in England..."
"Noon strikes on England..."
"Evening on the olden, the golden sea of Wales..."
I read Flecker's poem, and my quickest reaction was thinking he was expressing pride in English history and hope for great things being done by the English.
Kaor, Paul!
