The Man Who Counts, VIII.
I read of Diomedean war and find that I have posted about it before. See:
Some details:
a weighted net thrown around a flying opponent to make him fall to his death!;
the flying archers!;
during on-deck fighting, "Hard-pressed, a male would fly upward - there was little attempt to keep ranks, it was a free-for-all." (p. 189);
IIRC, van Rijn later shows that it is easy for infantry holding shields above their heads to capture a position because the enemy have no idea of defending on the ground. In fact, see Fighting On Foot.
Kaor, Paul!
ReplyDeleteI understand the purpose of the weighted net, but it seems rather a clumsy weapon to use on a MOVING opponent. But I can see it working often enough to justified being tried.
Ad astra! Sean
