Erannath of Stormgate Choth, confined in a cave on Aeneas, reminisces:
wing-free, he wandered across all Avalon in his youth;
he saw "'...storm-dawns over seas and snowpeaks!'" (16, p. 195);
he hunted a spathodont with a spear;
he remembers winds across plains;
he became a tramp spacehand, often staying for a while on other planets;
he married Hlirr on a planet with rainbow rings and silver oceans;
they returned to Avalon and raised a family, now grown;
he is an anthropologist (spy) but, it turns out, for Empire as well as for Domain.

ReplyDeleteI think it makes sense to think Erannath first STUDIED to become an anthropologist after returning to Avalon and only LATER becoming an intelligence agent for the Domain. I get the impression he was becoming fairly elderly, altho still hale, in THE DAY OF THEIR RETURN.
