The narrow outbacker roads become rivers in heavy rain. These guys live outdoors a lot but have to take shelter then. A low, log and stone hilltop homestead has an overgrown sod roof, invisible from above. No woodland buildings are locked. Inside, the lamps are micro-cultures in glass globes and the heat source is fuel oil. There is a well-stocked larder.

ReplyDeleteAs S.M. Stirling pointed out in another combox, I think OUR technology could have detected this house, esp. from sensing HEAT, from either power sources or human bodies.
I fear the surveillance technology Anderson had the Imperials using in "Outpost Of Empire" was dated.
