So I thought it necessary to point out even Leon had some good qualities: courage, energy, and forethought.

SeanSean M. We do see stories by Poul Anderson showing us the roles played by other agents, such as in "The Sorrow of Odin the Goth."

And I have speculated about the Danellians. Did their civilization too also fall? Who or what came after the Danellians?

I would have liked to know what happened to Leon Ammon after A CIRCUS OF HELLS. My hope is that, despite being a gangster, he used the vast wealth gained from Wayland to help strengthen and stabilize the Empire. It needn't have been anything spectacular or flashy. Simply investing the profits of Wayland in new businesses would do great good by stimulating the economy and increasing opportunities for people to find jobs.

At the very end of THE GAME OF EMPIRE we see Dominic Flandry expressing the hope that the Empire would survive another two centuries. So maybe the Empire outlived Flandry by 200 years. If Flandry's toils and struggles helped to do that, I would call that being as successful as he could have hoped!

SeanSean M.
