Recuperation And Recapitulation

I am incapacitated by a cold but, after breakfast, will have to get dressed and go down the street to vote in the EU election even though the UK is (supposed to be) leaving the EU! I might get some blogging done today. (We might have asked, "Why bother with the election?" but there is one candidate whom it is crucial to vote against.)

The thirteen most recent posts on this blog have been concerned either with our Spanish excursion or with thoughts that I had while away. Before that, in the company of Falkayn and Chee Lan, we contemplated "Ragnarok" on the rogue planet, Satan. I had been rereading that part of the Technic History in order to focus on Poul Anderson's descriptions of Nicholas van Rijn but there are always other points of interest. I will return to Satan's World today.

I had also been rereading the Time Patrol story, "Ivory, And Apes, And Peacocks":

- and might return to that.

    I hope you soon get over that cold!

    What a botch Theresa May has made of Brexit! More and more, a "no deal" Brexit, with the UK basing commercial relations with the rest of Europe under WTO rules, looks far better than this torturous, drawn out mess the PM has made of things.

    The sooner the UK actually dumps the EU, the sooner Britons can forget about voting for the elections to the powerless and impotent EU "parliament." If I was British I would vote for Farage's new Brexit party, to punish Theresa May.

    I have been out. We could choose between:

    Conservative
    Labour
    Green
    English Democrats
    UKIP
    UKEUP
    BREXIT
    2 Independents

    I think that was the full line-up.

    My natural inclination would be to vote Conservative, but the probable anger I would have for Theresa May would VERY strongly incline me to vote Brexit. The sooner the PM submits her resignation to the Queen, the better!

    The "UKEUP" is new to me. Pro or anti EU?

    Sean,
    It is the UK European Union Party so it must be pro-. Looks like a parody of UKIP! But it might not be a substantial or enduring organization. May is showing extraordinary tenacity. Some politicians just tough out anything. Cameron should have remained in office and implemented the decision of the referendum that he had organized.

    I did wonder if the UKEUP was something like that. But, as you said, it might not last long.

    Tenacity is admirable when done for worthy ends and goals. I simply don't think the PM is "tenacious" the right way, in this case.

    I agree it might well have been better if David Cameron had remained PM and SWIFTLY implemented the departure of the UK from the EU. Better than this long drawn out agony!
